When you're from Texas, people that you meet ask you questions like, "Do you have any cows?" "Do you have horses?" "Bet you got a bunch of guns, eh?" They all want to know if you've been to Southfork. They watched Dallas.

Have you ever looked at a map of the world? Look at Texas with me just for a second. That picture, with the Panhandle and the Gulf Coast, and the Red River and the Rio Grande is as much a part of you as anything ever will be. As soon as anyone anywhere in the world looks at it they know what it is. It's Texas.

Pick any kid off the street in Japan and draw him a picture of Texas in the dirt and he'll know what it is. What happens if I show you a picture of any other state? You might get it maybe after a second or two, but who else would? And even if you do, does it ever stir any feelings in you?

In every man, woman and child on this planet , there is a person who wishes just once he could be a real live Texan and get up on a horse or ride in a pickup. There is some bit of Texas in everyone. Did you ever hear anyone in a bar go, "Wow...so you're from Iowa? Cool, tell me about it?"

Do you know why? Because there's no place like Texas.

Texas is the Alamo. Texas is 183 men standing in a church, facing thousands of Mexican nationals, fighting for freedom, who had the chance to walk out and save themselves, but stayed instead to fight and die for the cause of freedom.

We send our kids to schools named William B. Travis and James Bowie and Crockett and do you know why? Because those men saw a line in the sand and they decided to cross it and be heroes. John Wayne paid to do the movie himself. That is the Spirit of Texas.

Texas is Sam Houston capturing Santa Ana at San Jacinto. Texas is Juneteenth and Texas Independence Day. Texas is huge forests of Piney Woods like the Davy Crockett National Forest. Texas is breathtaking mountains in the Big Bend. Texas is the unparalleled beauty of bluebonnet fields in the Texas Hill Country. Texas is the beautiful, warm beaches of the Gulf Coast of South Texas and Texas is the shiny skyscrapers in Houston and Dallas.

Texas is world record bass from places like Lake Fork. Texas is Mexican food like nowhere else, not even Mexico. Texas is the Fort Worth Stockyards, Bass Hall, and the Astrodome. Texas is larger-than-life legends like Willie Nelson, Buddy Holly, Waylon Jennings, Janis Joplin, Kris Kristofferson, Tom Landry, Darrell Royal, ZZ Top, Eric Dickerson, Earl Campbell, Nolan Ryan, Denton Cooley and Michael DeBakey, Sam Rayburn, and Lyndon B. Johnson.

Texas is great companies like Dell Computer, Texas Instruments and Compaq. Texas is NASA. Texas is huge herds of cattle and miles of crops. Texas is skies blackened with doves, and fields full of deer. Texas is a place where cities shut down to watch the local High School Football game on Friday nights and for the Cowboys on Monday Night Football, and NIOSA River Parade in San Antonio. Texas is ocean beaches, deserts, lakes and rivers, mountains and prairies, and modern cities. If it isn't in Texas, you don't need it. No one does anything bigger or better than it's done in Texas.

By federal law, Texas is the only state in the U.S. that can fly its flag at the same height as the U.S. flag. Think about that for a second. You fly the Stars and Stripes at 20 feet in Maryland, California, or Maine and your state flag, whatever it is, goes at 17 feet. You fly the Stars and Stripes in front of Pine Tree High in Longview at 20 feet, the Lone Star flies at the same height - 20 feet.

Do you know why?

Because we place being a Texan as high as being an American down here. (it is the only state that was a republic before it became a state, that is the reason I was taught).

Our capitol is the only one in the country that is taller than the capitol building in Washington, D.C. and we can divide our state into five states if we want to! We included these things as part of the deal when we came on. That's the best part right there.

If you are a REAL TEXAN you won't need to be told to pass this on.
;)

I'm hoping you Texans can clue me in. My daughter (who is black-white but looks Hispanic) and her boyfriend (who is white) may be moving to Amarillo this fall. They're young (18 and 24), and both up to now have lived w/their parents. What is Amarillo like? Any areas they should stay away from? Any areas that would be better than others for them to look for an apartment? Do you think they will be given a hard time there being an interracial couple? I have absolutely no idea what it's like there or what the size of the city is. Anything you could tell me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello everyone,I also live in Houston and I am a self employed mechanic for the last 33 years, before that I visited the only war that the United States ever lost, but texas has always been my home base that I came back to.quisath, that was quite a narritive that you gave about texas, sure you arent in charge of the Tourist Beareu? I remember when I first went to Germany and France and people found out that I was from Texas, they wanted to know if all of us carried six guns and rode horses like they saw on the movies. When I laughed and told them no, that we had cars and big cities like Paris and Berlin, they wouldnt believe because in the movies we rode horses and had gunfights everyday. Now how can any other state beat that, yup everyone knows about Texas.:D

I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with the great state of TEXAS in the USA, But

Just so you are well aware of global situations, I live approximatly 3 hours drive from Texas, and it is the biggest hole in the ground you will ever have the disspleasure of seeing, most excitment that has happened in Texas in the last 50 or so years was when the "Dallas Gift Shop" burnt to the ground

(Not to be confused with Texas USA.)

Doesn't sound much different than the one we have here. lol;)

Actually we are all a bit envious of the pride our Texas brothers have in their state. There’s no question that they have a self-esteem and attitude that DOES make them stand out from the rest of us. That way of being has as many advantages as irritations to us outsiders. Their history HAS been a hard fought one, from their coming into existence to Dallas 63. You can overcome a lot and do a lot of great things starting with just a united good attitude.

(makes you wonder what they’d be like if they were in a good state) LMAO;)

While I no longer live there, I was born there and spent the better part of my life there off and on. I do often go to Houston, for different reasons. I try to spend the night there when I go as the drive back to my present home is a long one. Would love to have a drink with any member wishing to, so if you want to just PM me......but before you do know that I'm a bit long of tooth, in age that is. But in my opinion age is only a number, I am healthy and active. So there!

Bilbo, I must admit you had me confused till the end of your posting. I used to live in such a place, a confused place, that is. It was called California, Maryland. Now I live in another California. Living in La., I have reason to go to Texas often. When you live in La., Texas is this huge hulking presence always so close, and so dominant in the politics and lives of the people here. When you live in La., Texas is this huge hulking presence always so close, and so dominant in the politics and lives of the people here. isiting there has usually been fun, and I have been to some amazing places there. There was a swingers club in Austin, next door to a totally nude bar! ( my first visit to a totally nude bar, it was so different from the topless only ones we have here). There was this nude "beach" , really a lot of huge rocks, on a beautiful lake I visited that same weekend. That was fun!!

Wanda,

Well in Lake Charles there aren't even topless bars. They have to wear pasties.

I went to college in Lake Charles, and when I started hanging out with friends after work in bars and strip clubs I wa spissed off that they were closing at 2:00 in the morning!

Goddammit I was so used to not leaving a bar until sun up!

Howdy to all my fellow Texans! I'm fairly new to the site...especially compared to some of you that have been here for years. If there are any females or couples in or around San Antonio looking to add a little spice to their lives, just drop me a PM. Personally, I'm married to a nun, but I love her. I'm looking for a long term type thing with someone that's happy and stable where they are at, but find themselves missing out on affection and physical attractions and pleasures. If nothing else, PM me and we can at least make each other feel good over emails ;-) There's pics of me floating around here somewhere, but I can always produce more upon request!

Go Texans!

Figured I'd post here, may start a thread, but seeing as how there is already an excellent TX group here . . .

I and a girlfriend of mine are looking for a female in either the Heart of Texas region (Austin, Waco, Dallas maybe) or Houston and surroundings for a threesome encounter (or more than one, situations depending).

She is 19, I am 21, so we are looking for a pixian around that age bracket (attitude matters as much as age and looks here, at least). She especially is interested in a friend as well as a "friend."

PM if interested, etc etc etc.
