View Full Version : wedding dance floors
My girlfriend and I always have a good time watching people on the dance floor at cookie-cutter weddings. But, why is it most men cannot dance? there is something so graceful and sensual about women dancing on a wedding dance floor. That grace is lacking in most men. It is a shame more men in (in the US, at least) cannot, will not, and/or do not partake in the joy women seem to experience while on the dance floor. Share your thoughts about this or tell an amusing wedding dance floor story.

Not just men, I can't dance worth a damn... lol, and I am totally fine with that 'cause Cobalt can't either.. :D
We do the "Prom" slow dance.. hold each other and gently sway...... :lust:

Actually, my SO and I once took a ballroom dance class. It was like "date night" once a week and also good exercise.
We only dust off the moves for special occasions though!

My wife has always been a terrific dancer and I felt completely inadequate on the floor with her. We had a "Princess Di" wedding to go to that prompted me to take ballroom dancing lessons. Learning the moves was only part of it. Being comfortable enough to have it not look mechanical took time.

If you are awkward on the dance floor or have two left feet,it can be difficult for one to try.I agree, most women look so graceful out there, so do men if they know how to dance well.I usually wait for the slow dances so I can at least hold the lady for a few minutes.Love watching Tangos.

Excellent thread omen!
I love to dance! Ever since I can remember....the beat of a drum gets me to swaying! Mom used to make my oldest sis take me with her to her frends house (don't "eek" yet, she's only 2 years older than me so I wasn't the proverbial "tag-a-long" baby sis) and sis and her friend would put on the Supremes and dance and sing, and at times.....let me join in! I musta been the 3rd Supreme or something.....but I was never allowed to be Diana Ross...lmfao!
Well......since then....I've HAD/HAVE the bug!
I've dated (a 9 year relationship) a drummer. You'd think he could dance.....right? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO F'IN Way! He sucked! In all my experience with guys and dancing......I've met [three] who even tried to make it look good!
The first guy........we never dated, but just went to dances together.....entered contests.....and even won a few. I was 13-15 at the time. The next guy.....I was still dating "that drummer guy" at the time......and he never wanted to go to dances......so I'd ask Lamont to come with me........just so I knew he and I would both have a worthy partner! Lately......when I have the need to break out......all our friends go to a dance party....and SUPERPIPE (a Pixie member and close friend) and I dance the night away! He can "cut a rug" like no other I've ever seen! Mr. Lixy hates to dance (cept slow) and I've seen his fast dancing......so I don't press him!
Anyway........I have no answer to your query! I'm interested in finding out the answer to this question myself!

i'm convinced that some guys can do it and some cant. when i was in junior high, the music teacher kinda answered the question for us...women, for the most part, are completely comfortable with moving their hips to the beat. men, if you watch most, cant move their hips for the life of them. i dated a guy in college that was one of the absolute worst dancers you could ever imagine in your life. he once asked me if i danced on the up or down beat and once he asked that, i knew what his problem was. he was trying to "mix it up" and switching the beats. i'll never forget going to a bar with him, my best friend and the guy she was dating at the time and the guy i was with went on the floor. i just wanted the floor to swallow me up. to make matters worse, there was a guy there there that was trying to immitate him. now i'm dating a guy who will go to weddings with me and teach guys who dont know how to dance how to even find the beat. i must say one thing about men and dancing that oprah will agree with...men who can move on the dance floor sure as hell know how to move in bed
Alot of dancing may be confidence. Any shred of doubt or awarness of others eyes on you creates the awkward stifness. I have had nights where I danced for hours and had a blast, but then was unable to re-create that a week later. Perhaps practice makes perfect. Its the only way to get to carnegie hall (scoff scoff).

I dance, I have always enjoyed it....my mom taught me ballroom dances when I was 8 or 9, and I have had a few additional classes as an adult. My S/O doesnt dance but when we go somewhere there are always plenty of women there whose's men dont dance...their loss.
Dance is an escape, an activity that allows people to reach a stage of no thought, just pure action. it is shame dance is not as common place in American culutre as it is in hispanic culture, african culture. Hey America, pull the stick out of your ass!

I sing with a band and do alot of weddings. And you should see some of the moves people have!! Quite often people fall over either on the dance floor or over our monitor speakers landing in our front row !!!

How much would I pay to see you slide across the floor?
My most memorable wedding dance was with one of my fave uncles. I warned him that "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" was frigging long but he didn't listen!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE, Latino music... so I can sway my hips and seduce anyone who's willing to watch me in action. I have to agree though some guys just CAN'T! I went to the club one day w/ one of my best friends (who I've known since 5th grade) and he was just standing on the side lines.... I ended up ATTEMPTING (key word) to teach him HOW to bump and grind.... oi... was not easy!

Loooking for the signup book for Fairy-bird's seduction. Damn wouldn't you know somebody took it?
Oh and I love to dance too. I'm no great dancer I don't think, but I could care less who thinks so when I'm having a good time.

I even like boppin to tunes in my car at stop lights...
I have fun when I'm moving, shaking, bouncing etc.... Doesnt matter what it looks like... all that matters is I'm havin fun!

I'm glad this thread was *bumped*!
I'm still trying to figure out why in the world a man can play drums like there is no tomorrow and can't hold his own on a dance floor!? LOL!
