Awhile ago,I asked for your opinions on drivers licenses for illegal
aliens. Now I have another one.I just heard(on the radio news)
that the current Gov. ,of Calif.,wants the taxpayers,to provide a
FREE college education for said aliens.I would like your opinions!
I am,totally,against it.My wife,started working,after school,when
she was in her Senior year of High School. Her family had NO money, and she was doing payroll for a Co. so she didn't go!We didn't have the money to send our daughters to college & they did
not attend.In her 40s,my wife & both daughters,worked all day, &
attended McCintosh College at night & all got their degrees. They also, had to take student loans,to do so.After seeing them, bust their asses,to make ends meet & run familys,at the same time,I
don't see why we should pay for illegals! Irish
P.S.My $.02!
P.P.S.When my youngest daughter, was a senior in High School,
she was also head cashier at Brooks Drugs,Worked at an oil dealership, and worked part-time,at the Newington Mall,on weekends. No one in our family, has ever been afraid of work,so I
don't see why people should get things free!

Well I think helping people afford education is nice. If their legal residents of our country. My husband gets grants and his GI bill to go to school. But he also works all night to pay our bills and then goes to school most of the day. Poor guy only sleeps 5 or 6 hours a day.
Couldn't they come up with some other program with that money, for "legal" residents. Like a tuition reimbursement program so that the students who do work their butts off to try to afford to go to school could get some help. Like, you pay half we pay half kind of thing? That would make sense.

Kissyface---Actually,you're lucky in a way. Most people don't know it,but when I was in,1961-1965,we had NO GI bill.If you were a vetern(sp?)you had so much time to get an education!I got
married,approx.6mo)before I got out& just couldn't go to school,
while my wife worked!(That's just me!) Irish

Irish,
Don’t get your dander up. California is not in a condition to afford the kind of money that would be required to fund such a proposal. This is standard political pandering, plain and simple. Governor Gray is hoping that if he promises enough, the “disadvantaged” or at least those who see themselves as disadvantaged, will vote against the recall. There is no way that he would be able to push such a proposal through Sacramento – even if he tried. He’s just out to save his political hide.

This probably wasn't a serious proposal, but in general, I agree that we certainly shouldn't do this for illegal aliens.
I think illegal aliens should be found and as rapidly as possible helped to be returned to their country of origin (unless they can legitimately claim asylum). And, returning them shouldn't take weeks or months ... but days at most.
Again (I think I said it somewhere else), maybe the means for providing legal work visas should be improved so that the need to "sneak across" to earn a living isn't so necessary.

I'm with DB on this one...
Round em up....Pack em up...and send em home asap (unless genuine asylum is required...but they should still go through the required channels...not sneak in the back door of any country)

One wonders why they're still sneaking across the border with the majority of manufacturing headed out of the country. If we don't take a good hard look at the trends. Some of us will be competing with those illegals for field jobs just to get by. I see and hear about more people turning up jobless because companies are building over seas and in Mexico. We seem to be cutting our own throats and the people we voted in to watch our interests are too busy stuffing their pockets to pay any attention.

The States are turning into a 100% service economy. Our labor is simply much too expensive to serve most manufacturing margins. Thus, education becomes critical for our workforce...legal and illegal alike...and we must educate our residents to remain competitive.
I am more than willing to provide a bit of help to people seeking a college education -- under the right circumstances. However, I worked 40+ hours per week and put myself through school...and I expect people first to depend upon their own resources to pay for school. If there is a legitimate need, however, I believe there should be grants and financial aid for those who qualify.

jseal---You must be right.I'm not that familar with politics but,
I just heard,on the radio, that Gov. Grey now is seaking to
delay the recall, because the voting process, isn't fair to minorities.
I noticed that it was OK when he Got elected(twice)tho!I have been a supervisor,on some jobs&he reminds me of someone that you are letting go because he is doing inferior work! Irish
