This is simply a rant.

As some of you know I started playing football again for a sort of local team. As of yesterday I quit. I quit because of the double standard used by the head coach. Anybody he wants to play/thinks is good can miss all of the practices they want and still get to play. I miss a week because of a bad knee and am told without a doubt that I will not be allowed to play. After that I came back to practice and busted my ass to try and get some playing time in the next game. I was 1 of 3 lineman that made all of the practices that week.

4th quarter of the game rolls in we are winning 33 - 3 and I have not gone in for a single down, neither has my bro. 8 mins left in the game the score is now 41 - 3 and the starting offensive lineman are starting to wonder why all of the extra guys on the team are not getting any playing time. They go talk to the coach and ask him to start subbing us in. He looks at both my brother and I and walks off. One of the lineman ask my brother why he won't stick us in. My bro responds "Because he thinks we will lose the game for him". The coach hears this and stomps up to my bro and gets in his face and asks him if he wants to quit, he says he is thinking about it. The couch then tells us that he is going to stick both of us in for the remainder of the game. Time left 5 mins.

It was obvious that he had no intention of putting us in until he realized that he may lose one or both of us. I'm not a started never have been, not even in highschool. I didn't expect to start, I just wanted to play some ball. All the coach wants us for is meat squad, somebody who can give his starters a look. Which would have been fine if he had treated me with respect.

When I told the coaches yesterday that I was done playing and the reasons why, he started insulting me. Telling me that I wasn't dressing down for enough of the practices(didn't dress down for 1), I was always on the sidelines at practice for minor injuries/low threshold for pain(Got a stinger/pinched nerve in my shoulder 1 practice and they made me sit out), and that I was missing to many practices(Missed 4, 2 because of work related issues and 2 because of my knee).

They went on to tell me that the see all of this great potental but I just need to work on some things, like dropping 20 pounds and getting faster. There was only 1 lineman who could beat me off the line and beat me down the field, my brother and he is 20 pounds lighter then I am and he doesn't get to play.

I'm only 25 but I'm to old to be putting up with this type of crap. I did enough of that when I was a kid.

((((Nice Guy))))

Sorry to hear.

It's to bad that winning becomes so important that the fun is taken out of it.

My ex went through that bs with his fastball team, too. He found a better team for the next season.

Nice Guy,

Tough shot, sir. Sometimes there's no way to avoid the assholes of this world.

Try not to let them bring you down for long.

You need to remember a simple quote I had on a T-shirt of mine...

"Every day I am forced to add another name to the list of people who piss me off!"

or you can just smile at him every time he pisses you off then he'll be wondering what you're planning ;)

And THAT is why ( as an adult ) I stay away from team sports like beer league softball, volleyball, soccer, you name it.

For me, at this point in my life, because my time is so limited ( work, family, house etc..... you know the drill ) I participate in activities for myself and myself only. My objective is to get in or stay in shape, enjoy being outside and push myself a bit. So for me, activities like Cycling, (MTB and Road ), skiing, hiking, etc are so much better because they are essentially solitary pursuits. True, I ride and ski with people from time to time, but usually I only have an hour or hour and a half to get the most out of my ride, so I go by myself and ride as hard as I can. Typically I have a training format that I like to follow, but it's only a guideline.

I have no patience anymore for the high-school football coach mentality, where the coach will dictate to me what I can or can't do. Hell, if the guy isn't going to play you what exactly is the point of being on the team?

Now go out and by yourself a bike!
