Ok so admittedly (and according to STO:rolleyes: ) baking is not my 'best thing'. What I need to know is...
How much egg shell is too much for a cake?????:spin: :p
depends...is your cake smooth or crunchy?

Handy Tip: To retrieve egg shell easily from batter, use another egg shell. They act almost like magnets, and are attracted to each other. It will cling to the piece you hold, making retrieval easy.

Another tip I learned the hard way: Both baking powder and baking soda can be used in a recipe calling for baking powder. However, soda won't brown like powder will, so it makes the cookies look like they're not done yet. You can sit there for 40 minutes wondering just why your cookies look like they're dough still, until they smell burnt. Yeah, it helps to grab the right one. ;)

Damn you Lil! I came in here to get baking lessons!
I have a question too...
When a recipe calls for, say, two eggs...why don't they ever, ever, ever say what size egg to use? I mean...I know peeps who only buy large ones...or medium ones...or whatever. I only buy JUMBO eggs. So if a recipe calls for two eggs...will one jumbo egg suffice? It's been a burning question since they've answered the "chicken crosses the road" one. Dontcha think?
And don't go off on, "You mean you know the answer to the chicken crossing the road thing?" either! I need an answer to size...damnitalltohell!
LOL!

I had wondered that too one time as well! The answer that I received from a wonderful grandma type person (don't wanna say old) who baked a lot was this...
The eggs are used in recipies in order for the dough/batter to rise. If you use jumbo eggs, just use the egg whites and throw away the yolks. The yolks don't do much unless you want added color to say yellow cake. That is why, when making a white cake, you don't use the egg yolk...
The only difference between the jumbo egges and large/med eggs is the yolk.

Isn't yolk a strange word?
Must add that to the list of burning questions.... who came up with that name for the yellow/orange center of an egg? Chickens.. where is STO when you need him?

All recipes unless otherwise stated are referring to large eggs.

TY, TY ladies! Now if only I had an urge to bake!
P.S. Chey...Yes, yolk is a strange word. I know what ya mean! I feel the same way when I say "garbonzo"...as in the bean. Who comes up with this shit?

believe it or not, i bake very well. in fact, it's something i very much enjoy doing. I actually taught my wife pretty much everything she knows about cooking and baking.
