View Full Version : Regain pride in regular garbage pickup.

I’d like to be able to regain some pride in all our towns and cities across the nation. The current budget crunch of every state and municipality is being stressed past breaking with every inch “The Campaign Trail” moves. Like Sherman’s march to the sea, it burns dollar bills in uncountable volumes.

The direct cost for this circus to build emotional excitement and appeal with it’s 19th century ceremony, would boggle the mind if anyone dared to account it. It has to be $ MANY $ BILLIONS $ of direct tax money from everyone of us that is spent by every government agency from the top of federal to the street cleaners and overtime for local police before, during and after even the suggestion of a visit. That doesn’t include the indirect costs of shutting down the local economy and transportation routes system of air and surface movement in it’s path. For every “seen” effect, there has to be at least three “unseen” that cost the people money or keep them from making it. How many deliveries don’t get made? How many “contingent” resources have to be activated and then put away, hopefully without use?

At a time when every local and hijacked penny is being squeezed for bare necessities of government function, I fail to see the benefit of “drop by” to redundantly spread misrepresentation. This coercion could more efficiently be disseminated through todays communication technology. In stead of bringing more, let us be able to afford to get the garbage we have, hauled away.

PLEASE Mr. Candidate, stay the fuck HOME and lie to us from there!!

Oh geezzzzzz! LMMFAO!

Yeah...he can read his "scripted speechs" from the Oval Office. It needs some TLC and attention since he spends most of his time on his ranch making nature trails and spilling over the handlebars of his tricycle...er...bicycle! I can understand his mispronunciations from the White House just as well as on the road!

Can YOU say "nuclear"?

I don't believe that this subject should be limited to being aimed at President Bush... sorry... he is in no way any different than ANY OTHER politician who is currently trying to obtain ongoing employment... whether an encumbant.. or a challenger.. ALL of these politicians are guilty of this...

You'd think...with today's widespread technology, the internet, and streaming media....that we would be able to get access to the appropriate information without travel.....

;) I live for the day I'll be able to do my job via NetMeeting rather than in person. I really don't need all these airline miles! :D

As for Kerry I have seen from what has been shown on our news. Edwards does most of the talking. I have also noticed the late night talk/comic shows are already getting milage out of his wife. The Soup Queen. And her shove it line. I guess it comes down to a choice between a rich guy and a war hero rich guy. When was the last time any of them went to a store and had to buy a loaf of bread and a bottle of milk for themselves? Not that we have much choice over here either.

As for Kerry ......
As for ……. this thread, the ONLY thought is the tremendously high cost to ALL the citizens for ANY high office candidate to roam the country “visiting”, during this charade to gain office. Their mere presents creates a totally unnecessary taxation from the federal level down to the local municipality, of millions of $ dollars $ with every stop.

These things would go back to a time before the Net, TV and radio. When the only things people had to know about someone was the local newspaper or to see them in person. I would say it is done these days, not to please or interest you. It is done to please the media, so they have something to put on the 6PM news.

I am only certain that the government services that are being curtailed or cut back across the country, are not pleasing the people that are paying for them, when they DO have to pay for that.

Indeed the same thing goes on here. The cost of these things could build schools or public housing, but someone has to get in to do that. Over here the parties think about what someone like Rubert Murdoch will say about them on his media. If he backs one they have a good chance of getting in. Other then the two main parties what other choices do you have to vote for there? Other then vote for someone that is not doing these 'visits' there is not a lot you can do about it.

What ever happened to a "Chicken in every pot?" At least there was a ploy that had some value. Used to be you could count on two per election. Now, you get screwed twice and it doesn't even feel good. :(

PantyFanatic,

In keeping with the theme of the thread, I do wonder what it is about the campaigns that draw the crowds to the candidates. While it may be artful camera work which only gives the appearance of a crowd, both Bush and Kerry do seem to attract crowds wherever they give their speeches.

So does Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey, but it doesn’t activate the Secret Service (for either of them) and WE don’t have to help pay for their appearance, regardless of where they are “showing”. Although I think they do both bring about the same amount of horse shit to each location, Ringling Brothers doesn’t get spread as far.

PantyFanatic,

Different forms of group entertainment perhaps? One paid for directly and willingly, the other indirectly and less willingly.

I agree. Most people in Miami are MUCH less willing to pay for an appearance in Seattle.:(

Do you think it would reduce the cost much if we could get all the candidates to come out of that little bitty car? :jester:

6:00pm - Opening ..........

All right Irish! We know the pollution is coming at us from all sides. We REALLY didn’t need a demonstration. That’s what this was about. Now get your city, county and state hazardous waste recover team (no federal subsidy) over here and clean up that mess.

Now your grandkids are going to go to bed hungry when daddy gets laid off because all the money was spent “putting on a show”. Maybe Mickey Rooney can get some work out of this? Can we get him to pay for it then?
