Laura Branigan, who had big hits with the songs Gloria and Self Control in the early 1980s, died yesterday at home in East Quogue, New York. She was only 47 years old.

She was also an accomplished actress; with roles in the TV show “Chips” and films “Mugsy's Girl” and “Backstage”. One of her last appearances was playing Janis Joplin in the New York stage musical “Love, Janis”.

When I saw that earlier today I felt sooo old. But she was very young....I know those 2 songs were very popular but they are both on my top 10 turn the radio station list.

Oh...geeeezzzz...her name sparks old memories. I used to use her "Gloria" song to practice my singing range.

So very young...that's the especially sad part! Didn't say the cause of death, jseal?

R.I.P Laura

That is correct. It was a brain aneurysm.

Laura was one of my favorite singers. Such that even I have every song she wrote--to my shock I have heard of her passing.

Wasn't she also the first to cover Michael Bolton's "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You" ?
...I have mixed feelings about that factoid, but it still hits close to home to hear someone leaving so early..

No, he wrote the song when he was still unknown...she made it a hit, & he went on to start nauseating people on his own... :P
