View Full Version : Pixies CD ~ Hurricane Frances

Something I have been considering for a while has now been forced to the top of my schedule by hurricane Frances. This is the first rushed attempt to keep us abreast of our Pixie members during natural disasters and the like. The thought was to have a standing library of maps with members locations when something like this occurred. It would then be posted in a thread to keep us informed of happenings around the people we have come to know and care about. The thought has been in the back of my mind since the flooding last spring in the USA.

I decided I wanted to do this after hurricane Charley and would post a thread to see if there was interest among our members and begin a LONG, SLOW process for the members requesting to be included. Frances has provided the kick in the ass to get this going.

I PMed 19 members that we know are located in Florida during the night, requesting permission and locations, to include them in this first strained attempt. I have only a couple early replies at this hour and will update the map at least twice, if and when the responses come in, today. It is possible some are among the people being evacuated. I am sure these members have other things on their mind at the moment and this is why I felt we had the need to have the prepared library.

Here is where our people are at. Watch the reports and pray for the next 48 hours and hope to see posts from them after the danger has passed.

PS
I'm working on optimum size. :o

Wow, impressive!

Why do I think some are going to complain these locations aren't more specific so the masses can find their houses? :D

PantyFanatic
09-03-2004, 08:27 AM
In this situation, the location of the houses may not be known until Monday. :yikes:

We hope not. ;)

This is a great idea PF! Thanks so much for doing it. Many places in the country suffer natural disasters and I think it would be great to know where our Pixie family is in the midst of one of them.

We definitely need your prayers here in Floirda. I am looking at being on the side with the worst winds. Just pray hard that we don't lose power. We were so lucky with Chalie.

Oh, and for those wanting to come over. Just PM me for the address. ;)

I'm suprised you didn't reserve Number Two for Steph. :D

Thinking about everyone in the path. Keep your heads low and your spirits high. And tell your men to lay on their stomachs...don't want their boners to get hit by a flyin lawn chair!

I have decided that the reason Floida gets hurricanes is cause only us crazy parrotheads who choose to live here knowing the risks, have the attitude it takes. We don't buy provisions we get supplies for our hurricane parties. Nothing better than weathering out a storm listening to Jimmy Buffet and drinking margaritas til the power goes out and the blender stops so you have to switch to beer:p

Little bit of good news - still not great but downgrading is good:

"The hurricane's maximum sustained winds dropped from 145 mph to 120 mph during the night, prompting forecasters to downgrade it to a Category 3. But Frances still brought tropical storm-force winds to Nassau that knocked out power and pounded the island with rough surf."

Not trusting it yet...often these slow ones lose then pick back up worse than before...like they recharge their batteries. Hope I am wrong:(

I’ve come to know tornados, but not hurricanes. I understand it’s movement is slowing as well as it’s strength. I’m not sure I would be happier being beaten for 4 hours at 120 mph than 2 hours at 145 mph.

 / :yikes:

It would make me happy to see that, too! :D

Got that right Sister. :wine:

I got my hurricane party supplies and plan on hunkering down in the hallway. I figure if I have a good buzz I won't mind as much if some tree falls on my house. :)

We worry just as much about the tornados as the hurricane winds. More damage inland is done by tornados and lightening. So we just get all the fun.

To all concerned friends and family alike here at my 2nd home. I am across the state from Hurricane Francis, I live on the east coast and PF should have me on his map once he gets my PM. I am outside of Tampa and expect to only get hit by the storms. So to all I am safe and will report in once I have returned home and all is secure and such. Thanks for any prayers and especially positive thoughts for the Hurricane to return to the ocean.

Some of our people are already feeling the effects it seems.

Prophet Reality asked to include his message with this posting of our members as mentioned above.
17:26 EDT
And if you be so kind to let everyone know that I am safe when you post it. I am on a limited time on a friends PC and can't do a lot. Thank you for your concern and idea for the thread. It is appreciated by myself. Goddess bless and I will report in once I am home again.

Steph-
If you can’t mentally transfer the news broadcasts to what is effecting who, print the map on very thin paper and tape it to your TV screen. When the reports come on, the storm will show up in it’s latest reported location. :D

….. Will we ultimately get to see see a world map?
That would be a neat picture. :D Because of the limited file size we can up load, it would be difficult to do on one page. When I have the initial assembly together, I will look into a possible link that may make that possible. :)

…..Glad you could take some time away from tormenting Steph. LOL
Nobody is safe when I do that,:yikes: but sometimes we have to sacrifice for the greater good. ;)

Thank you. Knowing others think it is worth the effort makes it a non-effort.

This is our latest map with just one addition and a little tweeking. There are a number of members, including our Summer, that I have not heard from and one response that was so happy about the map idea, he forgot to give me his location and hasn’t gotten beck to me yet. ;)

At the moment, it is sounding like you will need the boat instead of just the anchor. I’m starting a local drive at all our video stores to have copies of Water World and The Abyss dropped in as soon as Frances has passed.

On a serious note, I really would like to hear about the memories of your Floridian grandparents, when there were only reports AFTER the fact. I have to think that the forecasting system of only knowing you were in the season and watching the cloud formations, made it a slightly different encounter. That could even make fore a good party break. Get a tape recorder and find a couple of the oldest people in your area and get it down before the real peoples experience is gone for ever.

Good luck Peninsula People. Keep your powder dry…………. And everything you can. ;)

Although I've been watching and studying hurricanes for a number of years, it's more unpleasant when you know people in the track of one.

Take care y'all and we'll watch for your return, sorta like leaving a candle in the window of Pixie's so to speak.

The map will be my desktop until the storm has passed.

Whew!! We just had one of the outer bands blow through. Dumped a ton of rain and the wind blew my trees around like they were nothing! My sister who lives down the street a couple of blocks just called. They watched the neighbors tree fall down and then lost their power.

This sucks!! And this was nothing compared to what will be happening all night long.

Somewhat concern for relatives that live basically in the projected track. Fortunately, they don't live in one of the coastal counties, and hence, are not under an evac order, but...that's just one county over.

Well so far so good. I am just getting some of the outer bands now. Lots of wind and small amounts of rain. But where I live is another story. There are reports of a tornando that may have touched down. The beach is slowly desolving and no power. So hopefully my house will still be there when I return. And my job is closed until Tuesday, hoping that it will still have power then. Thanks for all the wishes and such. I know that I appreciate it.

Our thoughts are with you all!! Please know that I for one will be praying for all our Florida and S.E. US Pixies to ride this storm out with minimal or no damage and, so very hopefully, minimal loss of life! Thank you PF for all the work you have put into the map to let us know where all our friends are and I do hope, again, you all ride it out OK!

this is a slow moveing storm which sucks cause you want to get on with your life and cant till its gone
and I am stuck at home now till atleast tues............... work finnally closed ........... and didnt tell no one except management so every one was standing outside of work in Tampa .waiting to get in ........... with winds going crazy pouring rains and no one showed to unlock the doors .......... so someone is going to hear about it ...... but they were out there for atleast 2 hrs then desided to go home ........ no calls to tell them we were supposed to be closed ........... (such a lovely place to work huh) ........... anyways before i loose power again ...... winds are picking up here ............. this is whitetiger reporting to you live from the beach on the west coast ........ everyone stay safe PLEASE

just a lot of winds and rainfall here in Jacksonville. A very gloomy, very windy day ahead. The rain is pounding on my windows.
I think I slept harder last night than I have in a long time, I think it was the wind and rain that did it, nothing like a storn to make you sleep hard.
I have been watching the news and so far we are doing ok here.
This storm is moving too slow and stalling too much, it is going to cause more damage this way :-(

That sounds exactly like the forecasting methods I was asking about. ^^^ A little science and technology and you recall these events at the bank instead of the graveyard.

Those are super pics whitetiger. When they are from real people, of your places, of your life, they are more meaningful than any sensational news photo. Thanks for sharing and I’ll be looking for the “after pics”.
(You hear that Cheyanne? “AFTER PICS!” ) lol

How strong are the winds, Lil? I think your little guy is the sweetest for worrying about the animals. :lurv:

The only time the dog didn't like being out for a walk was several years ago in Newfoundland when the winds were 140 km/hr. We're a rock in the North Atlantic so the ocean tends to temper it for us. We get extreme winds but they're blown out to sea more often than not. (PF is going to kill me for trying to explain the way I think of weather without his assistance :D)

No clue Steph...this is just the tiny baby squalls. Suddenly I realize all the things I should have done, bought, prepared. There is nothing at the grocery store but hotdogs buns. No soft drinks nor batteries, nothing useful. Most of the ice has been purchased. I started trying to freeze milk jugs and tupperware containers filled with water, just in case.

Currently my kids are playing scavenger hunt.....Find me anything that we can use if the power goes out, the one who finds the most stuff wins:p

What is so very freaky is that it comes in bands, so it's crazy, then calm, crazy, then calm. My birds are going nuts and the dogs are hunkered down in their dog palace (most people build dog houses but not Mr. Lil :D), the cats are being cats and basically unphased by it all :p

We'll be fine but I don't do well without creature comforts, must be the Domme in me. My idea of roughing it is a hotel with no room service :p

If we get a nasty one I'll try to take pics too! ((((((((((much love))))))))

Steph

Sitting here after a cloudless late summers day (no wind about 75F), I cannot help but TRY to imagine there conditions that some of our brave Pixieans are facing. And I can't. I see the coverage on the news but its one thing to see it, another to face it. Here in the UK we very rarely have to think of winds over 100mph so to all of you who have survived, thank the deity of your choice for it.

Hurricanes have interested me for years, probably because I never have to face them, but seeing the pix and reading the posts brings it home how awful they are.

Stay safe everyone in Fla, and hope Ivan misses you. Two in the space of a week would be too much to bear.

Concerned...

I am back. I lost my internet for the last few hours. Not the power though. So I got lots of things cleaned that have been neglected. Like my hall closet. :D

We are worried the storm will come back to hurricane force and whip around and get us from the back side tomorrow. Not sure yet what will happen. I know we have to now worry about our friends in the Panhandle. :(

Glad you are safe now Tess! My mom is south of Tampa and just heard all the transformers go POP!!!!! blacked out, in a tiny house with 14 people, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 guinea pigs, and 2 birds.

Glad to hear peeps are still ok. Will say more prayer's till it's all done. When this is over if anyone knows of anyone that needs some help, I've got girl's clothes and shoes for a girl. Size 4-6x, would be happy to send them at my expense of course. Would rather they be used where needed, then sit in the back room at the Goodwill's here. PM if needed. :)

It's dark and I can't really see outside anymore but I can hear the trees, they actually sound like the ocean. Except when I hear the cracks and the thuds :( It's barely drizzling. They've made all the people just south of me evacuate and are opening many of the schools as shelters. I think just the ones where they have generators.

PF, Thanks so much for undertaking this project. It's so good to have a point of reference when worrying about our fellow Pixies when they're in the path of danger. I've already PM'd with my location for the bigger map project.

To all our Pixies in Frances's path.....I hope you all sustain minimal damage/hardship from this storm, preferably NO damage at all. Thanks for checking in whenever possible to let your friends know how you're doing.
And many thanks to WhiteTiger for all the photos!

So far so good! Mr Lil is fairly easy to entertain ;) and the kids are doing well so far. God help me if we lose power and I have to make them conserve their Game Boy batteries :p

I just talked to Summer...no tower power but she is a smarty and has a generator! For her she said Charlie was worse but that this thing is boring the hell out of them. She had some minor water damage but otherwise all is ok!

Power is back!!!! Woohoo! Lilith is right, so far, all we have is water damage. Charley was worst and we didn't even get the eye from him. Frances had her eye on us but we managed. It is wonderful to see how neighbors and strangers pull together.

Lilith if you need power I will hop in hubby's truck and drive a generator up your way. I will need it back though because I think Ivan might come by for a visit! Ugh!

Thank you PF for all your good thoughts and wishes for all of us in Florida. It is people like you that make me smile! Peace and love to you!

Peace and Love to all of you wonderful Pixie peeps who keep us in your thoughts. (((((((((((((pixies)))))))))))))))

Well, must get back outside and help clean up all the tree debri. Atleast this time we didn't loose entire fruit trees! ;)

I just got back to my home a few minutes ago, I decided around 1 pm when my power went out ,yesterday to go ahead and cross the big bridge in town and go to my parents house bfore they closed the bridges, we close all bridges at 40 mph winds and last night around here I believe they said it topped out at 75 mph. My parents lost power around 6 last night and is still out but I have power at my house now but up and down the streets its spuratic who has power. I have a 4 year old and I didn't want to hang out at my parents anymore she was getting bored and since I had power I hopped on home. Jacksonville looks awful right now, lots of trees down and open power lines on the ground.
I feel the same as Lilith I wish I had taken this a bit more seriously and prepared a bit more for it. My parents are off this week to go get a generator, because they run off a well and pumps there isn't even water flow at there house.
Good luck to the guys that its coming through to.

Hi Pixies, I just got back online after losing it yesterday right after I made my post on this thread. It has been a hard three days. But for us the worst we suffered is a very messy yard and no internet for almost two days. Oh and my phone is out. Try having a teenager that can't have a phone.

But three days of none stop news coverage and watching the big trees around my house whip around with sudden wind gust and torrential rain for the last two days has worn me out. Everytime I heard a branch hit the roof I thought a tree was coming down. But we are fine and all is good now.

That is until we see what Ivan is going to do. :(

I am still praying for everyone in the path of Frances.

Here is a thought. All the people in Flordia can move to Manitoba during hurricane season, and then from about mid Dec until mid April we will all move to Flordia.

Hi All,

I heard from 2 of our Florida Pixies today...

Dick aka. Joe: "The storm passed about 150 miles to the east of us. All is well here"
and
Loves2Laugh: "All is well so far, I am without power(at my moms right now), lost some trees and my fence, but I am ok"

So glad everyone is ok :

I have to move all my funiture back down stairs ........leaving most of it up here till after Ivan ........ Sigh is this ever going to end ?????? but anyways i am home now i will send out some photos when i can ...... lots of clean up work to do ..... talk to you all soon ........ I am happy that everyone made it through .............. THANK GOD
And thank everyone for there prayers ............ we needed them ........

I am home and have power finally. Made it over the bridge last night, but no power at all. So opened all the windows and doors and wished for the best. I lost 2 oaks trees in my back yard that was used for shade. Had to cut those down and hail them out tomorrow. Finally got power around 4 o'clock. Glad I have a generator, Lost some food, but have plenty of water and ice now. Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes. Now lets hope Ivan changes his mind!

Hey everyone!

Sorry, just got the messages about this thread. I'm in Jacksonville, FL and we were very lucky here. Lost power from Sunday evening into very early Monday morning, had a tree start to blow over and some limbs down, but that's it. Here's praying the next one comes and goes quickly!

It's just not fair, you all start to clean up from one storm and another one decides to drop by. Could'nt they be at least months apart instead of weeks.

Where is Mother Nature's suggestion box, I want to file my complaint!!

Good to hear your ok FLGrl!!!!!!

Hi Just read this thread
Our bad one was Charlie
Lost our business, on our house, roof, pool cage, 4 windows, air conditioner, and was without power or water for 2 weeks
Look at Charlotte county and you will see a mess
Every thing is starting to come back in place
so good luck to all
