WOW! I'm back from my trip and have I got things to show and tell you all!

Firstly though, I MISSED YOU!!!

Whew! That felt good! Ut oh, I'm gonna use up all my exclaimation point allottment (however you spell that????).

For now, I just wanted to say hello and peruse the new threads and get some hugs and shit like that. I've got some unpacking to do and we'll be putting all the pics in the computer sometime today and I'll get back here with all the news ASAP!

Let me just say...OMG! Fantasy Fest, Key West 2004 left quite an impression on us and I think we left our fair share on it!

Well, I PM'd Lilith to ask for her advice on how best to post some pics of the people we encountered on our trip. I've got a bit of editing to do and I'll start a new pic thread as soon as I get them set up.

In the meantime, let me tell you all about the preamble to us actually getting to Key West...

We left the house on Thursday, October 21rst at 7:30am...on our way to pick up our friends, SUPERPIPE and his fiancee Mrs. SUPERPIPE. He had just proposed to her on the previous Tuesday and we were SUPERSURPRISED! When we got there, they told us the news and showed us her ring and also told us that Mrs. SUPERPIPE had never flown before. It was a major fear of hers and she didn't think she could do it. We spent about 45mins. trying to convince her that her fear was normal and that the fear of the unknown was her biggest obstacle...to no avail! She couldn't do it and she was so sad about it! Well, we had to leave because we were driving from Pennsylvania to Baltimore, Maryland to fly down to Miami.

Off we went...myself, Mr. Lixy and SUPERPIPE...a three hour drive to Maryland (it was cheaper to fly this way). We got to the airport, found our gate, found a bar that we could smoke in, and waited till it was near time to check-in. Hubby went to look and make sure the flight was on time. He came back and said it was pushed back two hours. *sigh* Well, ok...the table in this bar is nice enough...we'll hang here and wait. An hour and 1/2 went by and SUPERPIPE went to check on the flight status. Pushed back another two hours! *yikes* It went from 2:46pm to 4:40pm to 6:40pm and then...yet another delay...to 8:30pm. They said the first plane had maintenance problems in Miami (it was coming from Miami to Baltimore and would be going back) and so did the second one. They tried to get us on another airline, but they were all booked and we could sit on stand-by if we wanted or we could wait for the last plane that night. *holy fuckin shit...we wasted a day in an airport...and the airline didn't seem to care!*

We waited a bit more and went to the counter and asked for food vouchers. It was like pulling teeth, but I finally got some. We ate and drank and waited some more. Finally, I couldn't take anymore. They really had some lousy excuses for why we were missing our flights to Miami and then on the the Keys. We inquired one last time, and the guy behind the counter thought I was being a bit agressive (Ya think?) and he sorta yelled at me which made me madder and all I could do was cry! After it was noticed that I was in tears, we finally got the last flight to Miami. OK...well at least it's warmer here. It was 45F in Baltimore! *brrrrrr*

When we got to Miami, we had missed all the other flights to the Keys and we had no other choice but to be booked on another airline for the following morning. We actually stayed in a room at the Miami airport on our first night of vacation!!! The following morning we got to the counter for our flight on Continental (we had previously been booked on American)...and the guy said the flight was booked solid and we'd have to wait on stand-by again. This was getting ridiculous! We told them our plight and that we were stuck at the airport all night...and suddenly, there was an opening on a flight to the Keys on a "Buddy Holly" commuter plane. *miraculous!!* We went to check-in (that takes about 1/2 hour or so) and then to check on the flight status. It was on time...whew! We sat down directly across from the boarding gate...so as NOT to miss this feckking flight..and lady behind that counter called out our last name. *????* Ut Oh! We went up to the counter and the lady said that two of us were on stand-by or we could go to Delta and get on their stand-by. *here I go...crying again!!!* Mr. Lixy explained why I was so upset...that we had gotten there yesterday and kept getting bumped...and the lady said..."Oh no Mr. Lixy, I made a mistake...it isn't you who is bumped...it's another two person party"! *YAY!* The plane came...fueled up...boarded...and we took off. Wouldn't have surprised me a bit if it crashed just after take-off...but it didn't *thank the powers that be*! That would have been the cherry on the icing of the cake of our trip!!!!

Touchdown...Key West, Florida...12:30pm Friday, October, 22...OMFG! We're here! 29 hours! We could have driven there in that time...no shit!

Off to pick up the car rental we had delayed due to our delays. That went smoothly. Off to the hotel..."Nope, I don't have those names here"! *WTF??????* I called three times the previous night! "Oh...you were scheduled for yesterday". *Duh* OK...we got our rooms. Whew! Hubby and I went to our room...opened the door...and a wall of cat spray hit us in our nostrils! OMFG! I spied a housekeeper...asked for air freshner...and tried to endure. We slept in that room for one night, woke up choking, and went to the front desk to ask for help. We got upgraded to a suite and finally, FINALLY, everything started to go smoother!

JHCOAB! I ain't that bad a person for this kinda karma to follow me around. It musta been with SUPERPIPE...LOL!

I gotta marvel at your ability to bounce back. I'm glad that in spite of everything (OMG, the cat spray would have put me right over the edge), you were able to salvage your vacation and have a good time!

I welcomed you back in another thread, but after reading about the start of your trip, I've got to welcome you back again and give you an even bigger hug!

I thought I was reading the script from the old Jack Lemon movie, The Out Of Towner’s. :D I’m expecting chapter II to say that you got there to find Mrs. SUPERPIPE had hitch-hiked down and was waiting for you in a sarong, holding a fruity tropical drink with a flower in it, at the arrival gate. :grin:

I’m sure it wasn’t on your itinerary, but NOW, I’m sure the start of your long-worked-for and anticipated vacation has earned itself a full page in your memory that would have otherwise been a passing sentence at best. ;)

With that kind of a beginning, I know the universe has to balance out with the most fantastic holiday we can all be envious of.:)
