Transitions – Arthur Miller

Arthur Miller, the playwright behind “The Crucible” and “Death of a Salesman” died last night at his home in Roxbury Connecticut. He was 89.

I was just reading that. I've been by his house, and it was suprisingly down to earth. Like his works, I suppose.

I'm very sad. A friend of mine is designing a theatre in MI for him & they were trying to get it finished before he died. :(

He won a Pulitzer for "Death of a Salesman" at 33.

He is one of my heroes & talking about him in reference to the theatre inspired me to try my hand at writing my first play.

To me, "Death of a Salesman" is the stage's "Casablanca".

He apparently was dating a woman in her 30s recently so he probably died quite happy. :D

I'm sure he is being toasted today in many English and drama classes...

One of our country's true literary greats...we are fortunate to have had him with us as long as we did.

I'm thinking that for him to be one of the literary icons of his time, AND to have been married to (& presumably have slept with) Marilyn Monroe makes him one of the towering giants of history...


...or is that just me?

Another thing I love about Mr. Miller is that he was a private man. He was married to a sex goddess & spoke quietly to the BBC about her. He spent all his energy trying to save her but it would never be enough. <sigh> He was a true romantic.

How many men would have mouthed off about sleeping with her? He was exceptionally respectful.
