Every time I smoke a joint someone asks me to pee in a cup. It's fate.

Smoke one for me and then reveal your wisdom, please.

I've always taken it to mean the time...25 or 6 to 4 would mean it's 3:34 or 3:35...in the morning, of course...the rest of the lyrics indicate partying into the wee hours..."should I try to do some more?" ...

either that or it's some kind of deep reference to the kharmic wheel of the cosmos...what the hell do I know...

I hadn't a clue but googled and found ... http://www.straightdope.com/mailbag/m25or6to4.html and it seems that scotzoid is accurate after you read through the ramble... even though i was too sleepy for it all to sink in for a bit, but now I got it... 25 or 26 to 4...3:35 or 3:34 as he said.

It's easier once you get used to it.

Great link, maddy, I haven't been to TSD in a while, but they're a great source for the wisdom of the universe...
& I'm pleased that it backs up what I suggested the meaning to be...Bob Lamm's statement, "it's a song about writing a song," reminds me that, from a musical standpoint, it's a good example of what kind of music gets written when a keyboard player is writing with a guitar...the five chord riff in the verses is mind-numbingly simple, I bet I could teach it to any non-guitar player in 5 minutes or less...

I guess that's what I get for not actually knowing the lyrics ... I always thought they were singing ... 25-0-6-2-4. Didn't have a clue what that might mean, but wasn't too concerned about it either .... learning something new everyday! :)

Nah.

25 or 6 to 4 is really about the odds faced by my ancestor, Oldfart the Obtuse when

he asked for a Guinness in a wine bar.

It was really 25 or 6 to 1 but they were so drunk "O the O" looked like 4.

If you check the addenda to the da Vinci Code, you will find this.

I didn't know all of that.

Thanks :
A) Lilith for asking a question that I have always wondered, and
B) for everyone for giving us the answers

All I know is that its a great song............(playing it on my mp3 player now!!)

PS- just becase I am curious, which version of the song do you prefer? The original or the re-make on Chicago 17?

My preference is the re-make, the horns and percussion just get me amped!
