I just recently found a new outlet to punish my body into (hopefully) fitness and health - martial arts. Though my lack of flexibility, stamina, and balance (probably because I have poor core strength) makes me feel like the class retard (and it's an intro class), I'm learning good stuff and I'm sure all the punishment is worth it.

Have any of you or do any of you don(ned) the angry white pyjamas?

Belial,

Many moons ago, I took judo lessons to satisfy my Sports requirement at school. I remain justifiably modest about my accomplishments. I progressed all the way up through a Yellow belt. :)

For many, many, many years. Almost 30, in fact.

My hurried (and often harried) lifestyle have finally made it too difficult to keep time free for it. I miss the mental structure, the workout and the physical contact.

I used to practice Aikido, and every now and then, make some efforts about getting back into it.

I've occasionally dabbled in kendo, as well.

I'm more a watcher than a doer in this regard. I ache so much just from life's inflictions that I need someone wrenching my bod hither and fro like I need another hole in my head!

JHCOAB! Did I just swallow jseal's dictionary?????????

*giggle*

Consider that answer a NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA from me! But best of luck to you Belial! Be careful and be sure to duck when the duckin is good!

Only angry green fatigues of the ancients. I believe 'hand to hand' comes right after 'spear & shield' for the 21st century solider.

But wait, I will confer with my colleagues at "The Angry Buddha Dojo and Laundromat", Grasshoppers.

What style(s)?

In my intro lessons, we get taught the basics of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Shootfighting, then choose either or both at the end of the intro. So far I've learned a couple of BJJ takedowns and armbars.

While exposed to Tangsudo and Hapkido, I've studied Taekwon-Do the entire time.

Which do you prefer...any idea yet? Personally, I'd be more apt to take interest in Shootfighting just because I like hitting more than grappling, and I like elbows. :p

I haven't done any Shootfighting yet, so I'll have to wait and see about that.

I've been studying one kind of martial art or another for about 7 years. I've had to switch styles several times because of frequent moves out of the area of whatever style I trained in. The style I've most heavily trained in would probably be Ryu-hon Kenpo and Shorin Ryu. I've also trained fairly heavily in Okinawan Kobujitsu, which is weapons training.

I've always been interested in getting into more BJJ or Judo, though I've not had a lot of opportunity to do so. At my current dojo we do do some grappling, but not nearly to the extent that any BJJ dojo would do.

And the white PJ's aren't about anger...it's about finding your center and better understanding your body and what it can do.

Unless he hits below the belt. Then they become angry white PJ's :D

And remember, blood on your gi is only good for bragging rights if it's not yours ;)

Well I study Taekwondo and have my 2nd dan black belt in that. Does that count?

Definitely :) How long did it take you to get that? Do you compete? If so, do you fight full-contact or do you point-spar?
