I've started a similar thread like this on other boards I visit, with some success. Looking at Pixies I see so many music :heartbeat here it might really take off.

I happen across new-to-me music in two ways typically. 1) via someone kind sharing music with me, exposing me to something I might not have otherwise happened across. 2) Quite literally, by accident is the other way I find new music. Often I may be seeking something specific but in the search I stumble upon or discover something wonderful and enjoyable.

It would be wonderful to see this thread be a place to share your love of music and have it be the type you consider to be treasures with the rest of us. I'd suggest/prefer non-mainstream, you know the stuff we hear on the radio all the time, because after all, we can find that on the radio. Since people have diverse moods and tastes we may all benefit or discover some new treasure of aural delight that can turn a ho-hum day into one that is lifted to a new place by the grace of music. Of course, it's absolutely alright to dust off some old "forgotten" favorites as well, one of the wonderful things about Pixies is the great mix of people.

A few years ago I entered a small piece of writing into a contest and won a music CD called Honey from the Tombs by Amy Millan (http://www.arts-crafts.ca/amymillan/index2.html) . For that reason, it is a special discovery. Her music along with a photograph (http://www.gallerysink.com/marksink/Images/Nude3_TorsoSkylight.jpg) also inspired me to write another small piece.

I recently happened across the stylings of Jon Gomm (http://www.jongomm.com/) . He seems to be coming on strong and the "reviewers" seem to like what he is doing and I know I like what I discovered.

Jon Gomm is an acoustic guitarist and songwriter with wonderful talent and creativity. He mics up his guitar so that you can hear tiny little scratches and hits to the body. This adds rhythm and strange almost synthesizer sounds at times. Gomm is all over his guitar smacking it up and hammering the fret board with all his fingers. The songs aren’t let down one little bit by all the guitar virtuoso stylings (similar in fashion Kaki King). They only add to the beauty of his music.

Admittedly, I couldn't run out and buy his CD as he is based in the UK... but I did order his CD Hypertension from his website. I'm compulsive that way.

The Divine Comedy (http://www.myspace.com/thedivinecomedy) is one to check out. Neil Hannon is, in my opinion, a lyrical genius, mixing seriousness with humor and wit. I linked to their MySpace page where there are four song to listen to, and they're all over YouTube if you would like to hear more.
