I heard the same about Krispy Creme donuts as well, free donut for voting. Makes me wish I could handle that much sugar again.
I also heard that Starbucks, leery of running afoul of laws prohibiting "buying votes" in any fashion, decided to just give everybody a cuppa whether you show proof or not.

How is that buying votes?
It's rewarding votes, whether you voted for Obama, McCain or Snoopy.

Starbucks was giving away free coffee.
Krispy Kreme was giving away free doughnuts.
Chic Filet was giving away free sandwiches.
I got my dinner and dessert for tonight.
There's an adult store here called Toys In Babeland that is giving away either a Maverick sleeve to the men or a Silver Bullet to the ladies who have voted.
Read all about it... (http://www.babeland.com/)

The question of buying votes isn't so much with what Starbucks is doing. The law is there to stop places that may have an agenda from buying votes. an example would be if there was a Proposal on the ballot that had to do with serving alcohol and bars were offering free drink as a way to get more people who drink out or like the place Aqua posted above if there is some proposal on the ballot that has to do with adult stores.

I didn't mean to suggest *I* thought it was like buying votes, it was just what I heard on the news...but I *do* believe there are people in this country that are twisted enough to try to prosecute it as such.

As the reward seemed to me to be indiscriminate, then "If music be the food of love, play on, Give me excess of it; ..."

You'll have to wait another 11 nights for that, jseal.

Starbucks & Dukin' Donuts were giving free coffee, California Tortilla was giving coupons for a free Taco, Krispy Kreme was giving away free doughtnuts...in MD, if you voted, you were given a sticker to wear, saying "I voted/Yo voté". I suppse if you were wearing your sticker when you went it, you got the stuff.
Don't know, I was stuck in the polling place. Wonder if we could get some of these places to deliver to us poll workers: we're not allowed to leave.

Someone had Starbucks out at the early voting. They had people pass out in line the day before so they provided free Starbucks and cookies.

I'm glad that Aqua posted that about Toys in Babeland, I had read the story earlier but I'll be damned if I could find the link again. :banghead:
