Songwriter Ellie Greenwich, who penned River Deep, Mountain High (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPOFNyvN2Y0), died today in New York. She was 68 years old.

She collaborated with Phil Spector on Chapel of Love (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnbZ76BMhvM) and Da Doo Ron Ron (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqgtsai2aKY).

During her long career, she was awarded some 25 gold & platinum discs.

R.I.P. madam.

Alas, I suspect that we'll be saying goodbye to more of the Brill Bldg. craftsmen & women sooner rather than later (although Al Kooper insists that the 60's songwriters weren't in the Brill at all). RIP indeed.
