Miep Gies passed away Monday at the age of 100. She doesn't have a name that is very well remembered,but she was the heroic lady who hid Anne Frank and her family in war torn Amsterdam. And was responsible for protecting Anne Frank's famous diary until it could be shared with the world.

Miep Gies passed away Monday at the age of 100. She doesn't have a name that is very well remembered,but she was the heroic lady who hid Anne Frank and her family in war torn Amsterdam. And was responsible for protecting Anne Frank's famous diary until it could be shared with the world.


My students know who she is and I wonder how many heard the news. We read a story every year that was excerpts from the diary and mentions Miep's role.

While I was sad to hear of her passing, I was comforted by the fact that she had such a long life.

Mr Frank paid a number of people to supply them with food and other necessities. He set up the chance of their survival and almost made it. He was a brave and clever man.
