They reek? I had never noticed. Of course, out her in sunny So. Cal, we might see one lady bug at a time. Two would be a movement. Three would be an invasion.

Oldfart 11-15-2008 08:46 PM

Four would be a restaurant?

BamaKyttn 11-15-2008 08:50 PM

>humming< you can get anything you want at Alices' Restaurant. Excepting Alice.

Oldfart 11-15-2008 10:10 PM

That's the one.

I think that song is hilarious. Can't wait to hear it again.

I've heard nothing about if it's going to continue, but WRLT has had a long tradition of playing Arlo's classic on Thanksgiving Day...you can be entertained while having "another Thanksgiving dinner that couldn't be beat" :line:

A cousin of mine has it on cd. So we'll be loading up the vw microbus and taking the garbage out once our meal is over.

We interrupt this Arlo Guthrie remembrance to report the following:

We've been having an invasion of fruit flies since, oh, about the same time as Bama had the ladybugs (same reason, cool weather) Bleach down the drains & not leaving dishes in the sink so much have had no effect (except I swear I hear the flies giggling)...mrs zoid googled up a solution today of 2 tblsp sugar, 1/2 cup vinegar, & 1 tsp dishwashing soap, left in bowls around the house. So far, three dead flies floating & a vague pickle aroma.

Booger 11-19-2008 12:23 AM

scotz bleach down the drain doesn't work check out this site for some helpfull hints on how to take care of the problem.

Best thing I found was a splash of red wine in a small glass or egg cup with a few drops of dishwashing liquid and leave it in the same spot, cleaning out and refilling as necessary. Didn't get rid of them all but caught a huge number of them so I at least felt I was going some way to getting rid of them instead of them just flying around laughing hysterically at me.

scotzoidman 11-19-2008 01:49 PM

I think red wine is chemically similar to the sugar + vinegar mix, so yeh, it sounds like that would work too.

Booger, wife also found another way to eliminate the breeding grounds in the drains, involved boiling water poured down (to loosen the debris), followed by something else, can't remember what she said. I have some off-brand drain cleaner gel, I may give that a try, since it's there & I don't have to go get something else...

Booger 11-19-2008 02:55 PM

scotz the best thing I found for clean out drains is about a cup of vinegar in a pot of boiling water and right before you poor that down put some baking soda down the drain. The hot water loosens up the debris and the vinegar and baking soda helps clean them out. I've use that as my main drain clear for years work just as well or better then most stuff you can buy.
