Pixies CD ~ Hurricane Frances

1 Attachment(s)
Something I have been considering for a while has now been forced to the top of my schedule by hurricane Frances. This is the first rushed attempt to keep us abreast of our Pixie members during natural disasters and the like. The thought was to have a standing library of maps with members locations when something like this occurred. It would then be posted in a thread to keep us informed of happenings around the people we have come to know and care about. The thought has been in the back of my mind since the flooding last spring in the USA.

I decided I wanted to do this after hurricane Charley and would post a thread to see if there was interest among our members and begin a LONG, SLOW process for the members requesting to be included. Frances has provided the kick in the ass to get this going.

I PMed 19 members that we know are located in Florida during the night, requesting permission and locations, to include them in this first strained attempt. I have only a couple early replies at this hour and will update the map at least twice, if and when the responses come in, today. It is possible some are among the people being evacuated. I am sure these members have other things on their mind at the moment and this is why I felt we had the need to have the prepared library.

Here is where our people are at. Watch the reports and pray for the next 48 hours and hope to see posts from them after the danger has passed.

PS
I'm working on optimum size. :o

Steph 09-03-2004 08:08 AM

Wow, impressive!

Why do I think some are going to complain these locations aren't more specific so the masses can find their houses? :D

PantyFanatic 09-03-2004 08:27 AM

In this situation, the location of the houses may not be known until Monday. :yikes:

We hope not. ;)

Pita 09-03-2004 08:41 AM

This is a great idea PF! Thanks so much for doing it. Many places in the country suffer natural disasters and I think it would be great to know where our Pixie family is in the midst of one of them.

We definitely need your prayers here in Floirda. I am looking at being on the side with the worst winds. Just pray hard that we don't lose power. We were so lucky with Chalie.

Oh, and for those wanting to come over. Just PM me for the address. ;)

imaginewithme 09-03-2004 08:44 AM

Thanks for your concern PF.... this is really cool. We'll see if we're located on the map still soon. ;)

WildIrish 09-03-2004 08:59 AM

I'm suprised you didn't reserve Number Two for Steph. :D

Thinking about everyone in the path. Keep your heads low and your spirits high. And tell your men to lay on their stomachs...don't want their boners to get hit by a flyin lawn chair!

I’ve saved "666" for her and will have it on the map of Hades. :hot:

;)

Lilith 09-03-2004 09:50 AM

can you please draw a line on the border or Fl and Ga and label it hell?

musicman 09-03-2004 09:51 AM

Which one? ;)

Lilith 09-03-2004 10:17 AM

just label the line cause I don't want Big Bear57 to come get me...oh wait nm...label Georgia:p

Lilith 09-03-2004 10:25 AM

I have decided that the reason Floida gets hurricanes is cause only us crazy parrotheads who choose to live here knowing the risks, have the attitude it takes. We don't buy provisions we get supplies for our hurricane parties. Nothing better than weathering out a storm listening to Jimmy Buffet and drinking margaritas til the power goes out and the blender stops so you have to switch to beer:p

musicman 09-03-2004 10:33 AM

Little bit of good news - still not great but downgrading is good:

"The hurricane's maximum sustained winds dropped from 145 mph to 120 mph during the night, prompting forecasters to downgrade it to a Category 3. But Frances still brought tropical storm-force winds to Nassau that knocked out power and pounded the island with rough surf."

Lilith 09-03-2004 11:09 AM

Not trusting it yet...often these slow ones lose then pick back up worse than before...like they recharge their batteries. Hope I am wrong:(

Aqua 09-03-2004 11:16 AM

Great idea PF. Thanks for putting in the time to put it together. :)

I’ve come to know tornados, but not hurricanes. I understand it’s movement is slowing as well as it’s strength. I’m not sure I would be happier being beaten for 4 hours at 120 mph than 2 hours at 145 mph.

 / :yikes:

It would make me happy to see that, too! :D

Got that right Sister. :wine:

I got my hurricane party supplies and plan on hunkering down in the hallway. I figure if I have a good buzz I won't mind as much if some tree falls on my house. :)

We worry just as much about the tornados as the hurricane winds. More damage inland is done by tornados and lightening. So we just get all the fun.

Teddy Bear 09-03-2004 01:52 PM

Terrific idea PF! TY for doing it. :)

Be safe Florida Pixies. *hugggs*

Prophet Reality 09-03-2004 04:31 PM

Safe and Sound

To all concerned friends and family alike here at my 2nd home. I am across the state from Hurricane Francis, I live on the east coast and PF should have me on his map once he gets my PM. I am outside of Tampa and expect to only get hit by the storms. So to all I am safe and will report in once I have returned home and all is secure and such. Thanks for any prayers and especially positive thoughts for the Hurricane to return to the ocean.

d5254t 09-03-2004 04:40 PM

I am located in Jacksonville , so I hope it just gives us a lot of rain....
Thanks for caring you guys

*singing* changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes, nothing remains quite the same*

Oh man...I can't wait to get to the Keys in Oct. and listen to the 5 o'clock Parrot Hour!

Be safe guys! Hold down that state till I get there to help!

PF? You are a sweety! I put my location on the other thread! Now cum...er...come and find me!

dicksbro 09-03-2004 05:14 PM

You got our prayers, PR. All of you folks do. ;) PF, I replied to the other thread on my location and I'm still there. :D Will we ultimately get to see see a world map?

Some of our people are already feeling the effects it seems.

Prophet Reality asked to include his message with this posting of our members as mentioned above.

And if you be so kind to let everyone know that I am safe when you post it. I am on a limited time on a friends PC and can't do a lot. Thank you for your concern and idea for the thread. It is appreciated by myself. Goddess bless and I will report in once I am home again.

Steph-
If you can’t mentally transfer the news broadcasts to what is effecting who, print the map on very thin paper and tape it to your TV screen. When the reports come on, the storm will show up in it’s latest reported location. :D

LMAO

sodaklostsoul 09-03-2004 06:38 PM

Thank You PF, now I won't have to keep asking where everyone is. Glad you could take some time away from tormenting Steph. LOL

That would be a neat picture. :D Because of the limited file size we can up load, it would be difficult to do on one page. When I have the initial assembly together, I will look into a possible link that may make that possible. :)

Nobody is safe when I do that,:yikes: but sometimes we have to sacrifice for the greater good. ;)

BIBI 09-03-2004 11:05 PM

Just wanted to say that my thoughts are with all of you in the affected areas. Hoping that you and your families remain safe and secure.

Studmuffin69 09-04-2004 12:45 AM

Thanks for starting this thread PF.

Looks like things are looking better for us here. Maybe we can make it through this one too.

jennaflower 09-04-2004 01:05 AM

PF...

This just proves...

You are a wonderful man.. with a kind generous heart... thank you for putting this together for all of us...

I am thinking of all of you there...

HUGS.. and be safe!!

nikki1979 09-04-2004 06:16 AM

Thank you. Knowing others think it is worth the effort makes it a non-effort.

This is our latest map with just one addition and a little tweeking. There are a number of members, including our Summer, that I have not heard from and one response that was so happy about the map idea, he forgot to give me his location and hasn’t gotten beck to me yet. ;)

At the moment, it is sounding like you will need the boat instead of just the anchor. I’m starting a local drive at all our video stores to have copies of Water World and The Abyss dropped in as soon as Frances has passed.

On a serious note, I really would like to hear about the memories of your Floridian grandparents, when there were only reports AFTER the fact. I have to think that the forecasting system of only knowing you were in the season and watching the cloud formations, made it a slightly different encounter. That could even make fore a good party break. Get a tape recorder and find a couple of the oldest people in your area and get it down before the real peoples experience is gone for ever.

Good luck Peninsula People. Keep your powder dry…………. And everything you can. ;)

imaginewithme 09-04-2004 09:58 AM

Thanks PF....this is really awesome of you to do!

jennaflower 09-04-2004 10:14 AM

to think I lived @7 for 4 years.. sure wish I would have known about Pixies then... damn.. damn..

LOL

jaybee from UK 09-04-2004 10:24 AM

To my good friend TT and all Pixie Floridians....

Please be careful, batten down everything you've been advised to, I will cross my fingers for you. Please post here as soon as you can, although I'm sure the queues at the Internet cafe's will be prohibitive...

Jaybee.

Pita 09-04-2004 11:13 AM

(((Jaybee))) thanks to you and everyone else sending us your prayers and good wishes :)

This waiting is almost the worst part. Thinking about it hitting and not knowing what we will get as far as damage and rain is stressing me out!!

PashkinThePanther 09-04-2004 11:47 AM

Although I've been watching and studying hurricanes for a number of years, it's more unpleasant when you know people in the track of one.

Take care y'all and we'll watch for your return, sorta like leaving a candle in the window of Pixie's so to speak.

The map will be my desktop until the storm has passed.

Pita 09-04-2004 03:12 PM

Whew!! We just had one of the outer bands blow through. Dumped a ton of rain and the wind blew my trees around like they were nothing! My sister who lives down the street a couple of blocks just called. They watched the neighbors tree fall down and then lost their power.

This sucks!! And this was nothing compared to what will be happening all night long.

Lilith 09-04-2004 04:20 PM

almost half a million without power already

PantyFanatic 09-04-2004 04:34 PM

Hurricane survival Rule No. 1.

PANTIES should only get wet from the inside!! ......... if I'm not with you.:lust:

gekkogecko 09-04-2004 04:37 PM

Somewhat concern for relatives that live basically in the projected track. Fortunately, they don't live in one of the coastal counties, and hence, are not under an evac order, but...that's just one county over.
