Seventy five and still going strong!

For those who have and for those who do and for those who have yet to enjoy the comic series Tintin, the young reporter is 75 years old today. The adventures of Tintin and his dog Snowy were first published in a Belgian newspaper on January 10, 1929.

Tintin and his companions Captain Haddock, Professor Calculus and the detectives Thomson and Thompson were good friends of mine, and I read Tintin’s many adventures to my children.

Viva Herge!

I’m unfamiliar with dogs. Does anyone know what breed Snowy is?

jseal,

I've never seen this comic in our papers. Do you think it's on line? If so do you have the URL?

Thanks
teddy :)

We don't have it in our papers here anymore but the book store have many books with TinTin things in their comic book informational type section. I definitely remember reading that series. The Adventures of TinTin were on tv as well.

jseal I could be wrong ,but Snowy always reminded me of a Scottish Terrior

Sharni 01-11-2004 02:57 AM

He's definately a terrier

I had heard that he's sposed to be a fox terrier

Edit: Did some quick online research: from what i can gather Snowy is a Fox Terrier

Bilbo & Sharniqua,

Thank you.

TY Lil & jseal for the links...

I'd never heard of this comic before. But I can see why it's been around for so many yrs. The older ones are the best.

It was also a kids tv cartoon in the past decade or so.

Teddy Bear 01-11-2004 12:56 PM

Missed the kids cartoon also.....

boo-hoo poor me. :(

Teddy Bear,

If I may be permitted to make a suggestion, stick with the books. The television cartoon series was a far cry from what Herge wrote. In one of the more bizarre characterizations, the detectives Thomson and Thompson were given cockney accents! Here were two detectives from Scotland Yard, properly attired in business suits, wearing Bowler hats, and out of their mouths came these shocking sounds!

No doubt someone one the production team was making a "statement", but the ironic humor Herge put into these characters was lost.

How I love Tintin. Captain Haddock and Thomson & Thompson are just some of my favourites.

LixyChick 01-12-2004 06:01 PM

When I first read the name TinTin.....I immediately thought of Rin Tin Tin....the german shepard who came around on TV just after Lassie (I think Lassie was first.....but not positive)!

I've never heard/seen TinTin the fox terrier! Oh wait....did I? Did the dog talk in the TV series? Not move it's lips, but more like us hearing his thoughts? Hmmmmmm.....it's rather vague....but I recall a terrier like that! Or....am I trippin? LOL!
