Word of the Day
I was watching Walking Dead season 2 and one of the characters used a word that I hadn't heard before. Anyone recently run across odd words that aren't normally used?
ca·thar·sis kəˈTHärsis/ noun noun: catharsis; plural noun: catharses 1. the process of releasing, and thereby providing relief from, strong or repressed emotions. |
There is this phrase I don't hear used enough-
Yes ma'am, may I have another? or Yes, your majesty :p |
Not quite what I meant Oh Mistress.
It's usually used as "I found the experience cathartic".
Right. Like this "A beating from Lilith proved to be very cathartic" or " I found a beating from Lilith to be a catharsis." :D
Exactly! I could travel from the antarctic to the arctic and find nothing so cathartic.
:faint:
Ah, but you left out "Tart", "Lady of the Evening", "Escort", numerous others.
Lubricitous. I'm stuck on lubricitous. It's another word like clitoris which just rolls off the tongue.
mayhap
ˈmeɪˌhæp adv an archaic word for perhaps |
I notice that nobody I speak to uses "ascertain" or "discern". I'm the only nerd in the conversations, apparently. lol
And the other day, I heard someone use a word only used previously by Colonel Sherman Tecumseh Potter.....jocularity. |
No, that was Father Mulcahy, when he got drunk at a "bachelor" party.
Oooooh...I stand erected! Good catch.
