My ass is still sore from taking it up the ass for a colleague today. Today it was even popsicle cold in N Fl. I walked in to a portable with no heat. I had blowing air but no heat. It was 50 in my classroom and the temperature was dropping. I reported it to the office and they offered me to bring my students into the main building. Kind offer but I had an autistic student having a bad day who was losing his damn mind and trying soooooooooooooo hard to keep it together. A move would have been disasterous. So we asked them to call and get us help. I get to work at 6:30 and at 10:30 still no heat or HVAC dude. So the aide next door kindly came over and tried to fix it. I teasingly told him that he was getting us in trouble. Little did I know how true that was to be. He went online and looked up the thermostat manual and unlocked the thermostat and fixed it. Within 10 minutes it was 60 degrees. So I took my kids to lunch and when I returned the HVAC dude was there. He asked who touched it and how they overrode the system the district has in place and I said I did it. He proceeded to scold me and I explained impolitely how it was fixed and that now that he's touched it that was no longer the case. Anyhow he came inside my class and tore me a new one in front of my kids and my aides. I had to just suck it up and set a good example. About halfway through him telling me how I was going to be reported and the district was gonna take away my birthday I realized that I just had to de-escalate him in the same way I do my crazy kids. I think it ended up with him understanding but I guess we will see. I told the secretary that if she gets a call from HVAC for the principal she should accidentally disconnect.
