Royal Commission for Political Correctness announced today that
the climate in the UK should no longer be referred to as 'English Weather'

Rather than offend a sizeable portion of the UK population, it will now be referred to as:

'Muslim Weather'

Oldfart

No, they are the metal disks we use as spacers when setting tiles, then we can trade them for small drinks.

The conductor is big on “period authenticity”, and had a counter tenor sing what is commonly sung by an Alto. She used natural trumpets in her attempt to get closer to the sound she thinks was heard in Dublin these many years ago.

She did herself proud this afternoon, IMHO.

OF, I'm not sure how big the alligators in South Carolina got. Still an interesting encounter though. Jogging along, and then there's a croc?

Oldfart
12-12-2011, 09:25 PM
Nah, they'd been fishing up the creek and the tide came in. They were walking in ankle deep water back to the parking area when the (unnoticed) croc reacted. It was probably more of a territory dispute than a dinner invitation.

Lord Snow
12-12-2011, 09:34 PM
Maybe the croc was just irritable? I mean dry scaly skin can be really annoying.

Procedure went well yesterday (had the needle biopsy on the spot that showed up on my lung). It takes a couple of days to evaluate the biopsy, so I won't find out the, results until Monday ... but this step went good. Got to the hospital about 7AM yesterday and was there until about 3PM. A lot of prep had to be done, but, the actual surgery didn't seem to take that long. While numbed up, I was awake and answered questions during the process and remember just about everything that happened. Following the surgery, there were x-rays to assure everything was holding good. Had a surprising good lunch (meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy and green beens with a very good jello dessert). I was pooped last night. Laid down around 6 or 6:30 and slept until just a few minutes ago. Today, of course, is the tough part. Can't drive or lift anything and have to stay in the air conditioning and watch TV or spend time on the computer. :D

Anyway, here I am again. Will keep you all posted.

Your good wishes and prayers were, for sure, appreciated! Thank you!

I wish! The senior Scouts in the Troop I work with are doing a Northern Tier (http://www.ntier.org/) trip next year, and one big fundraiser we will have is a Bull Roast. One of the better moneymakers in past Bull Roasts has been a 'Silent Auction' that is principally stocked with donations from local businesses. So, I pulled out the old RFD database, and read my notes from 2 years ago on how to get it to feed MS Word's Mail Merge feature.

... that was from 2 years ago ... the notes made sense at the time ... I finally figured out the 'obvious stuff' I didn't need to write down! LOL!

What hoops we jump through for those obnoxious ruffians!

I post this with a twinge of sadness.

An Australian jet has left Christchurch for Antarctica on a tricky mission to rescue a sick American scientist from an ice-bound research station.

A team from the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) had been waiting for clear weather to fly 3,800 kilometres to the US base at McMurdo Station, on the southern tip of Ross Island.

McMurdo is experiencing temperatures of minus 25 degrees Celsius, but as the supply station for the US Antarctic program, it has a runway that is open all year round.

The five-member Australian team are flying in an AAD Airbus A319 jet.

The US National Science Foundation (NSF) said it called in Australian help yesterday because no US planes were available.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force will provide search-and-rescue coverage for the flight.
